Cannot upload background images

Same here.
Michael Ybanez
Keith Benson would you happen to know if you have a C:\ProgramData\VCam folder, and whether you are able to write files into that folder?
(The C:\ProgramData folder might be hidden).

Same issue. No backgrounds uploaded, even after restart.
Jon Young
Kathryn Taylor: Hi Kathryn, did you also reach out to us via the help bubble on the site? If so, we'll try and work with you on this issue there!
K
Kathryn Taylor
Jon Young Hi Jon, yes - sorry, doubling up on your work! I didn't mention this background image issue. I reached out about 'lifetime licence' VS watermarks - I also left a bug report exactly the same. Thanks, Kathryn (PS - my MSINFO shows I'm in the USA. I'm not, I'm in the UK) Cheers!

Question: Which directory are the images uploaded to/from? The laptop I'm using has very restricetd access set on some directories and registry entries. I'm just wondering if everyone having the same issue has similar restrictions? (May not be the answer, just a thought)
Michael Ybanez
Kathryn Taylor could you please check if you have restrictions in %programdata%/VCam/Backgrounds ?
K
Kathryn Taylor
Michael Ybanez - hi there. I don't have a %programdata% directory. I have C:/Program Files/ VCam. No Backgrounds sub-directory. Permissions are read-only. I reset the permissions to remove read-ony. tried VCam to upload a new background with no success. Permssions for VCam directory and subdirectory were back at read-only. I created a backgrounds sub directory. Copied in an image. Removed read-only for VCam and all sub-directories and files. Tried Vcam - no success. Tried uplaoding another bacjground, no success. Permissions were back to read-only. Hope all of that helps!
K
Kathryn Taylor
Apologies. Just found the ProgramData directory. IT's not visible - I found it using Search.
Michael Ybanez
Kathryn Taylor thanks for checking. Does the (invisible) ProgramData/VCam directory have any restrictions?
Additionally, if you try to upload the same background image or images through the website instead, does the upload work properly?
K
Kathryn Taylor
Yes, C:/ProgramData/VCam/Backgrounds exists. Permissions for VCam and sub-directories are read-on;y. The backgrounds directory is empty. I removed read-only for VCam and sub directories. Tried uploading a background image. No success. Checked permissions, they had gone back to read-only.

Kathryn Taylor
Michael Ybanez HI, ProgramData/Vcam is read-only, as are all of the sub-directories. On the website ALL the background images I uploaded are visible. So, I deleted them all then uploaded a new one. Back to the
app and it is still showing one icon for each of the original images and all have the whirly 'waiting' sysmbol.
K
Kathryn Taylor
UPDATE - I reinstalled VCam. One background image was waiting to upload. This was the last image I uploaded on the website. I closed VCa. I removed the single image from the website. I restarted VCam. No image waiting to load. I added a single image on the website. I restarted VCam. No image waiting to uplaod. I then tried to upload the same image from the Vcam app. Now showing the waiting to upload whirly image. The website IS showing the image. Just for complete info - I still have XSplit on my machine, but it is not set to start on boot.
Michael Ybanez
Kathryn Taylor thanks for the responses, these are very helpful. We have some ideas on how to address this issue, but could we please get some additional details from your machine?
Ensure that VCam is installed (as you mentioned you had uninstalled it earlier)
- Open Powershell
- Type the following command: cd C:\ProgramData\VCam
- Type: attrib /d . /s
- Type: Get-ChildItem -Recurse | where-object {($_.PsIsContainer)} | Get-ACL
- Please copy and paste all of the text displayed in the Powershell window.
Thank you!

Question: what's the key difference between XSplit accessing backgrounds and VCam accessing backgrounds? My XSplit still works 100% OK, I can upload and use any background (and video) I want.
Jon Young
Kathryn Taylor: It looks like XSplit is setting the necessary required access permissions during install, while VCam is not. We're hoping to get a permanent fix out for this in the next couple of days.
K
Kathryn Taylor
Jon Young Thanks Jon. Q) Is there supposed to be an equivalent to "C:/ProgramData/Xsplit/Vcam/background library KTaylor.json" in "C:/ProgramData/Vcam" ? Because I can't seem to find a background image file index anywhere. Thanks
K

Re : "Allow apps to communicate through Windows Defender Firewall". "Xsplit Vcam" is allowed [on my laptop]. There is no entry for "Vcam[.ai]". If Vcam.ai is trying to access the web to pick up the background (from the website) and Windows Defender is stopping it.... Is that a possible reason why backgrounds are not loading properly?
Michael Ybanez
Kathryn Taylor hello, we released a potential fix for the issue today; you should be receiving an in-app notification to update to the newest version (2.0.252). This version lets the installer modify the access permissions to the subfolder within ProgramData to avoid any issues writing to the folder. This is something that XSplit used to do, and now VCam is performing the same action.
This may have been the reason for your issue, but please let us know the problem still remains.

Kathryn Taylor
Michael Ybanez Hi Michael - Success!!! Thanks for the fast update :)
